The Wharton Venture Initiation Program
The Wharton Venture Initiation Program (VIP) is an educational business incubator managed by Wharton Entrepreneurship which assists University of Pennsylvania students as they build and launch their startup ventures. All Penn students in degree-granting programs at the University are welcome to apply. Applications are accepted online three times per year (in September, December, and April) and all applicants must do a 2-minute venture pitch as part of the admissions process.
While in VIP, students become part of an entrepreneurial community that provides office space, professional advising, educational events, and on- and off-campus networking opportunities, as well as an invaluable support system of fellow VIP members who are student entrepreneurs.
Once a student is accepted into the program he or she can re-apply for up to five contiguous semesters to remain in the program and continue reaping the benefits of participation. Students who have actively participated in VIP programming, have given back to the VIP community, have submitted monthly progress reports on time, and have demonstrated a commitment to meeting venture development milestones, frequently remain in the program for the full five semesters. A unique aspect of the program is that recent graduates who have been actively engaged in the program are permitted to continue benefiting from VIP membership even after graduation, for up to the full five semesters of maximum membership.
