WeTrain is a proud Veteran-owned, fitness-technology company building the “Uber of Personal Training.” Every day, 700,000 training sessions are conducted in the US. Using our application, members request trainers for affordable sessions ($17/half hour or $25/full hour) AND we are able to pay trainers 30% more than the gym.
What’s new and exciting about your business plan?
The most exciting part is that WeTrain is not a plan, it’s a fully-functional business. We’re about to hit our 1,000th session and are excited to bring an accessible and affordable health and wellness option to the market. We have hundreds of trainers in our system who we pay over 60% more than the national average while charging the consumer far less than they would expect to pay in an alternate setting.
How did you come up with this idea?
I recently lost 60 pounds and was shocked by how expensive the options in the fitness landscape were. My co-founder had been a Master Trainer for almost a decade and I was shocked to learn how little they earned, despite all of the hard work they put in to sell and conduct the session. We set out to change this with WeTrain.
What does it mean to you to be one of the eight Finalists in the Wharton Business Plan Competition?
It’s humbling to be considered a finalist in one of the largest and most prestigious business school competitions in the world. We hope that the competition will help us reach additional clients and trainers who we can help with our services. What’s one fun fact about each member of your team?
Jon used to be 60 pounds heavier and Zach is a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan who can allegedly hold his breath for over 3 minutes.
If you win the Perlman Grand Prize ($30,000 cash prize, $10,000 in legal services, $5,000 in accounting/strategy services, GLG Share Fellowship), what will you do with the money?
The money will help us grow our technology and marketing efforts which will be critically important as we expand into our next geography.
