Startup Challenge Semifinalist Chipper Pet Food

Chipper Pet Food offers a sustainable and nutritious alternative to traditional pet foods. Our products are made from edible insects. In addition to creating an eco-conscious product, we offer pet owners an option that allows them to introduce diversity into their pets’ diets. You don’t eat the same food every day, and your pet shouldn’t either!

How did you come up with this idea?

Climate change is a problem that we were passionate to address.  Research shows that eating insects instead of meat, or even imitation meat, could help curb the high levels of harmful greenhouse gases and runoff that come from current agricultural practices.  However, humans aren’t quite ready for the adventure. While studying and taste testing some edible insects, we left a handful out on the kitchen table.  We walked away, only to return and discover that our highly selective dog, Wren, had happily devoured them all!  It was at that moment we knew that dogs would be our best consumers.

How will your venture change the world?

Our product will help reduce global warming while providing dogs (and eventually cats) a healthy source of amino acids and Omega 3s. Additionally, we will help conflicted consumers feed their pets nutritious foods without compromising on their own desire for a sustainable future.
