Tangen Hall Furniture Competition

We’re pleased to announce the winning designs of the Tangen Hall Furniture Competition! Nine designs were awarded by a team of Judges and a tenth design was chosen as the People’s Choice Award recipient through more than 1,500 virtual votes. Eight of the winning designs were created by members of the Penn community.

SUMMARY: ISymphony is influenced by sound waves and musical instruments. A composition of various and repetitive planes slot together, framing a chair that carries instrumental form and practical function. To provide a more ergonomic experience, the seat slats bow at the center to cradle the user, while the back slats provide a moderate recline for support. The Symphony brings harmony to a space, creating a visual and restful melody.

SUMMARY: The Solitude Pod is meant to provide a space for impromptu working sessions. It is space where occupants of the building can sit and work in a semi-private setting. The Pod is designed to accommodate people of different bodies. That is why on one side, the tabletop extends outward to so that a person in a wheelchair may use it.

SUMMARY: This continuous panel changes its form suit its intended use. Starting with a form that suitable for table usage, it gradually changes to another form once it moves to different sectors and create unique types of gathering space. Twisted part in the middle plays pivotal role that makes it change its form easily, and adds more elegance to the design.

SUMMARY: Warp One Engage is a productivity chair with two solid-state work surfaces for the occupant. Both can accommodate a 13″ laptop computer or notebook at a position optimal for typing and writing. A tablet can rest along the trailing edge of each work surface for an ergonomic angle and viewing depth.
